Update Regarding the Permanent Diaconate Formation Program – September 2026

The Archdiocese of Toronto is currently undertaking a period of reflection and renewal regarding the discernment and admissions process, formation, ministry and future development of the Permanent Diaconate.

As part of this process, the intake of candidates for the Permanent Diaconate Formation Program has been paused for a period of two years. There will be no new formation class beginning in September 2027. During this time, a committee will review the Permanent Diaconate and consider how formation and ministry might be further strengthened to respond to the evolving pastoral needs of the archdiocese.

We are grateful to those who are prayerfully considering a vocation to the Permanent Diaconate and encourage you to continue your discernment through prayer, participation in the life of your parish, and service to others.
