On Dec. 12, Holy Family Parish in Whitby, Ont., officially opened its new atrium, meeting spaces, renovated offices and rectory with a Mass celebrated by His Eminence Frank Cardinal Leo, followed by the blessing of the newly completed spaces.

In his homily, Cardinal Leo reflected on how the physical renovation points to a deeper call for spiritual renewal and highlighted the Holy Family as a model for parish life.

As the parish shifted its focus from maintenance to mission, a cultural transformation took place – marked by increased engagement in faith formation, youth ministry and family ministry. Creating a culture of missionary disciples became a pastoral priority, and the expansion of these spaces emerged as a necessary step in supporting evangelization.

Holy Family Parish first opened its doors in 1984 and today serves a vibrant community of more than 5,000 registered families. The new atrium, offices and meeting spaces represent the culmination of nine years of visioning, planning and dedicated effort. The project was led by Fr. László Nagy, with the support of parish committees and parishioners who worked together to bring this vision to fruition.
